Personality: A quiet, mysterious woman, Terra is the only half-human half-Esper in existence. While that allowed her to be born with the gift of magic, it has also left her wondering if she could ever truly love another because of her dual nature. Love is something that is very important to Terra, and she focuses on it and wonders about it so much that when she finally does find love, she doesn't even realize it. The feeling that seemed so obscure and aloof to her was inside her all along, and when she finds this out it makes her into a very strong woman with ever-growing confidence and power.

Before she finds that love, however, Terra often seems confused and lost. When Locke first meets her, she has no memory of anything other than her name, and as fragments of what the Empire put her through come back to her, it only makes her more afraid and unsure. First the resistance tries to recruit her, and she agrees... then suddenly she finds herself working with the Empire again, even though she had fully remembered what they had done to her. Her confusion is understandable, but it still bothers her as she tries to find answers.

Terra's childhood was not a happy one. Having been taken by the very people that killed her mother and trapped her Esper father while still just a baby, she grew up in the cold and harsh Imperial capitol of Vector. She was studied and examined all her life as the Empire tried to learn the secret of harnessing magic for themselves. As a result she grew up reserved and shy as well as frightened and lonely. Still, she never wanted to fight or hurt anyone else, and eventually Kefka used a terrible device called a slave crown to totally rob her of any independent action and thought, giving him total control of her and her unique powers.

Even before she learns that she is a half-Esper, Terra understood that she was different. When Edgar hits on her, instead of being flattered or even upset by his advances, she barely reacts at all. She understands that a normal woman probably would have felt something for the handsome king, but she is very aware that she is hardly normal. As her memories return and she is finally awakened to her heritage, she begins to worry that she can't love or be loved; no doubt her cold and clinical upbringing in Vector also had an influence on this. When she and Celes first get a moment to talk, the first thing she blurts out to her is "Have you ever loved anyone?", rattling and confusing the other woman - but clearly showing just how heavily the matter constantly weighed on her mind.

Despite knowing that she is different and fearing her power, Terra uses it when she must. As she fled Figaro with Locke and Edgar, she didn't hesitate to attack their pursuers with magic. It isn't until she transforms into an Esper for the first time that she realizes just what she is capable of and what her nature truly is, and until she is reunited with her Esper father Maduin she is so terrified of herself that she falls into a coma. She gains confidence once she learns who and what she is, and the acceptance from her companions also strengthens her.

It takes a long time indeed for her to finally fully embrace both her human and Esper sides, and to realize that she is very capable of love and of being loved. After Kefka ruined the world and turned his Light of Judgement on the town of Mobliz, killing all of the adults and leaving many children orphaned, Terra found her true calling in taking care of the little ones. Even Duane and Katarin, the only teenaged survivors of the village, came to see Terra as an embodiment of hope and survival, not to mention as a close friend and mothering presence.

Terra's drive to fight was sapped by the little ones that so desperately needed her care. A year later when the group tries to reassemble and take down Kefka, they find Terra a changed person - stronger in some ways, but weaker in others, as she feels she can't fight at all anymore. She is even felled by the monster Humbaba, and the others have to fight him off to save her and the children. They leave her to her orphans for a time, but when they come back Humbaba attacks once again, bigger and badder than before. Terra has no choice but to step forward to defend the children and her friends, morphing into her Esper form for the first time since the world fell into ruin. After the battle, Terra is convinced that the children will be terrified of her when they see her as an Esper, and at first they indeed are. However it doesn't take them long to realize that this, also, is Terra - who the little ones all call "mama" - and they fully embrace her as always, Esper half and all.

This is a huge deal for her, since she had never received such unconditional love so intently, especially while in her Esper form. She realizes that she must fight to protect those she cares about, and so that everyone - the little ones in particular - will have a better world to grow up in.

Power & Abilities: As the only known child of an Esper and a human, Terra's magical abilities are unique and powerful. She is one of only two playable characters that can learn new magic spells without the aid of magicite, one of them being the strongest attack spell in the game. Fighting: Trained by the Empire from a very young age to be a soldier, Terra's skill with a blade is formidable. Her fighting abilities are well honed, often surprising others who don't expect such a frail-looking young lady to have such skill.

Trance: Terra can morph into her Esper form for short periods of time, granting her increased abilities and speed. She can fly while in Esper form as well. Extended and regular use of morphing can tire her out, and the longer she remains in Esper form the more it drains her, so she tends to only use it when absolutely necessary.

Game Plan: After spending most of her life being controlled by an Empire, Terra's going to be very conflicted! She'll likely side with the Insurgents, considering what the Empire has put her though back home, both to her personally and to her world. However if the rebels are cruel and willing to put innocents in danger, that won't sit well with her, and she may end up siding with the Empire after all. There are many factors at work here and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens!

The voice had been strange enough, but Terra had had some very odd dreams over the years, and she was more than able to write it off as part of yet another one. The ensuing battle was real, though, and while she'd seen some terrifying things, she was used to fighting creatures that she could barely identify. Only fear for her own life and the lives of those around her had kept her fighting, and she'd found herself going into a kind of dazed state that seemed at once utterly alien and disturbingly familiar to her. Had she fought like this when the Empire controlled her every movement, her every thought? No, surely not; she'd been nothing but a killing machine then, not caring about anything or anyone. She'd spent just as much time healing the wounded and getting people to safety as she had actually fighting, something that she tried to comfort herself with now, after it was all over.

Everything still felt like a dream, and if she was honest with herself, she still wasn't entirely certain that it wasn't in fact some elaborate hallucination. The wounds she'd sustained in the battle ached with a real pain that couldn't be ignored, but what else would explain the incredible city she now found herself in, not to mention how she'd arrived there in the first place? Her last memory was of flying over Kefka's Tower on Setzer's airship, resigning herself to the very likely possibility that she'd be dead soon. Was this her mind's way of dealing with her facing her death? She knew she'd tried her best to appear calm, but she'd been fighting back tears and trying to conceal her trembling.

The city she now found herself in was impossible. The capital city of Vector was a mere spark compared to the blazing inferno of this place, with buildings that reached toward the sky and countless people everywhere, coming and going from all directions in an endless array of colors and movement. It was too much; if everything didn't feel so real Terra would be positive that she was only imagining it all.

Perhaps strangest of all, she noticed others with hair as green as hers. Truly something must be wrong with her eyes, because such a thing wasn't possible.

It was easier to focus on the seemingly magical city and the multicolored hair of its inhabitants than to face what was bothering her the most about all of this, though. All around her, people were talking about the Empire, and how wonderful it was. How the group of rebels would never stand a chance. It all hit far too close to home. Finally, she couldn't stand it any longer. She approached the first friendly-looking person she saw and spoke.

"U-um, excuse me, sir? Can you tell me a little about the Empire here? And, um, the... the rebels?"

Less than ten minutes later, she was hiding from the group of people that had gathered. Her innocent questions had sparked first a lively discussion and then a screaming match, which seemed to be elevating to something much worse. One thing was certian - she'd have to be very careful about what she said in this fantastical city, and even more careful with who she could trust.

✖ BACKGROUND:
Terra was born in the Esper world, but was only two years old when the Empire invaded, seeking the power of the Espers. The Emperor murdered her mother and captured her father, taking Terra as well once he learned of her unique heritage. She grew up under the Empire's command in Vector, the capitol city, where she was trained and studied and analyzed. When she began to show resistance toward the increasingly horrible tasks they assigned her, a slave crown was placed on her head, taking away what little freedom she had remaining. In time, she joined the resistance group the Returners, where she finally made friends and began to learn more about herself. Eventually, she learned of her Esper heritage, and while it took time for her to accept her powers and not be afraid of herself, when the acceptance came it brought with it an inner peace she'd never known before.
Now that her world has been ravaged by the madman Kefka, things have once again changed for her. The world is dying and there is very little hope left, but Terra is finally ready to do what she can to be that hope, for those she cares about and for all the innocents not yet born into her world. The acceptance of her friends and of the orphaned children she's taken into her care make her even stronger, and she now fights with a quiet resolve to restore her world back to what it once was.

✖ CHARACTER ASSESSMENT:
The only known child of an Esper and a human, Terra's magical abilities are unique and powerful. The Empire trained her in the art of swordfighting from a young age as well, so her physical capabilities, while not as innately impressive as her magic, are still formidable. She appears to be frail and weak, but any one who thinks she won't hold her own in a fight will soon realize how mistaken they are. She prefers to settle conflicts peacefully whenever possible, but if physical force is the only recourse, she won't hesitate to take it, especially if innocent lives are in danger and in need of protection. When transformed into her Esper form, her abilities and speed increase dramatically, and she also gains the power of flight. She is still very self-conscious of what she perceives to be a monstrous guise, though, and will only transform when there is little or no other option.
